IGB New Arrival Information

This site has been developed to assist you in your upcoming move to the IGB. This is a secure site requiring you to have permissions to access this information.

Following are a few key items to be aware of prior to moving:

Computer Access

In order to get keys or complete the Safety Exam you need an IGB system services account. This account will enable a user to access all IGB system services such as: email, calendar, file-sharing, cluster, and web publishing.

Upon creation of this account if you would like to have your IGB mail forwarded to an existing account please let us know. Please visit Room 2626 IGB (second floor of the Gatehouse) to establish an account.

Safety Training/Exam

Prior to being issued keys/card access to the building non-faculty researchers, lab workers, and users of the Core Facilities must first pass a safety exam. The safety exam is available on the IGB Web Site Safety Page.

WHO NEEDS TO TAKE THE ONLINE SAFETY TRAINING

Researchers are required to take the Division of Research Safety Online General Laboratory Safety Training and the IGB training for researchers.

Lab workers who will not be performing research are required to take the Division of Research Safety Online General Laboratory Safety Training and the IGB training for laboratory workers not performing research.

Users of the Core Facilities who are not also working in the IGB are required to take the Division of Research Safety Online General Laboratory Safety Training.

Faculty are not required to take the online safety training, but are strongly encouraged to review minimally the training slides for researchers, as this training set includes a lot of building safety information and IGB-specific requirements. The Division of Research Safety Online General Laboratory Safety Training provides general lab safety information and some campus safety policies and procedures.

Note: Those who need to take the DRS online general lab safety training will need to print out a hard copy of the certificate to get IGB keys or key card access. No printout is necessary for the IGB safety exam. If there are people who have already taken the DRS exam, they can go to the DRS website and print out an additional certificate without retaking the exam.

Chemical/Radiological/Biological Waste

None of these materials can be moved to the IGB; in most cases it is illegal to do so. If you will be vacating space, you must arrange for disposal at that location where the wastes currently exists. Waste removal should be planned early, as DRS can get overwhelmed with waste requests.

If you have any questions relating to the move, please direct them to move@Igb.uiuc.edu.
